UTI Support Guide

Urinary tract infections can range from mild and self-limiting to serious and systemic. While homeopathy and holistic care are incredibly effective in many cases, there are situations where antibiotics are the right choice.

When to Consider Antibiotics

  • Blood in the urine
  • Fever or signs of systemic infection
  • Severe pain
  • Suspected or confirmed kidney infection
  • Chronic or recurrent UTI that is not responding to holistic care

In these cases, homeopathy can still play a powerful role in supporting recovery from antibiotics and relieving discomfort. We also include tools to help the body recover after antibiotic use.

Homeopathic Remedies for UTI

Use 30C or 200c potency. Dose every 2 hours for up to 3 doses. If improvement is noted, space out dosing. Stop when 80–90% better. If no change after 3 doses, reassess.

Dosing In Homeopathy

Homeopathic dosing varies by potency and condition—acute issues need frequent doses, while chronic conditions require less frequent dosing. Stop or reduce dosing as symptoms improve, and reassess the remedy if no progress occurs. Always consult a practitioner for severe or persistent cases.
  • 6X is our typical cell salt potency

    • Dose every 4–6 hours for moderate symptoms.
    • Acute or urgent conditions may require doses every 1–2 hours.
  • Use 30C or 200c potency. Dose every 2 hours for up to 3 doses. If improvement is noted, space out dosing. Stop when 80–90% better. If no change after 3 doses, reassess.

    • Improvement: Reduce frequency or stop if 80-90% better.
    • No improvement: Reassess the choice of cell salt or consult a practitioner.
  • Continue until significant improvement is noted (80–90% better).

  • Consult a homeopath or health practitioner if symptoms persist or you are unsure about dosing or cell salt choice.

Cell Salts for UTIs

Use 2 tablets, 2–3x daily during acute phase. Can be used alongside remedies.
    • Early UTI signs
    • Can combine with Nat mur 6X
    • Frequent urination
    • Take with Ferrum Phos 6X at first sign
    • UTI from emotional stress or without infection

Dosing for Cell Salts

Cell salt dosing is typically more broad than with homeopathic remedies. Because cell salts offer a more general support, they can be taken more frequently, and multiple can be taken at one time. They can also be taken with homeopathic remedies, allowing 10 minutes in between remedies and cell salts.
  • 6X is our typical cell salt potency

    • Dose every 4–6 hours for moderate symptoms.
    • Acute or urgent conditions may require doses every 1–2 hours.
  • Use 2 tablets, 2–3x daily during acute phase. Can be used alongside remedies.

  • Continue until significant improvement is noted (80–90% better).

  • Consult a homeopath or health practitioner if symptoms persist or you are unsure about dosing or cell salt choice.

Acute Herbal Support

Herbal Support (just choose one)

Kid Friendly Herbs (just choose one) Adults could use these also

Supporting Teas

  • Hibiscus Tea, adults drink 2-3 cups per day, children 1 cup. This is a delicious tea, especially with some honey added. Tastes great hot or cold.
  • Purifier Tea from Organic Olivia code: Kendra
  • Parsley Tea- just put a handful of fresh parsley in hot water and steep for 10 minutes. Strain and drink.
  • Dandelion tea

D-mannose Supplements for bladder support

  • D‑Mannose, a simple sugar found in fruits (including cranberries), appears to block E. coli’s ability to attach to bladder cells. A well-designed study reported that 2 g daily in 200 mL water over 6 months reduced recurrence from 60.8 % to 14.6%—a number needed to treat (NNT) of about 3 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. Systematic reviews and meta‑analyses support these findings, though guidelines caution that larger studies are needed .
  • Acute phase: Higher doses—or dosing every few hours early in infection—are commonly used in clinical practice and anecdotal reports .
  • Maintenance Phase-1.5–2 g once or twice daily shows benefit for long‑term prevention .
  • D-Mannose (fullscript has numerous powder and capsule options)

  • 300 mg every 3 hrs short-term, this can also be taken if you suspect you might be getting a UTI
  • Waterfall D-Mannose chewables (this is a great option for children found on amazon)

UTI-XP by Vita-Aid (fullscript) – Combines D-Mannose, Hibiscus & Cranberry

Gemmotherapy

  • Uri-Gen (fullscript) – 10 drops for 7-10 days, taken up to 30 days, do half the dose for children.

Chronic care support

All the suggested options would be great for chronic UTI support but the following may be especially helpful to support the body more long-term, outside of an infection:

Daily Hibiscus Tea

Uri-Gen Gemmotherapy

Cystoprotek by Algonot (great if you are experiencing interstitial cystitis)

Trialing a lower oxalate diet (great if you are experiencing interstitial cystitis)

Be mindful of histamine and your response to higher histamine foods, temp changes, and symptoms associated with hormone fluctuations (these can all indicate histamine issues)

Exploring Pelvic Floor Therapy, especially if you have any incontinence issues

Urinary tract specific probiotic strains (fullscript)

Work with a homeoapth to determine your constitutional remedy.

It’s important to recognize a related condition known as interstitial cystitis, which can mimic many of the symptoms of a urinary tract infection. In these cases, tests typically do not reveal any pathogenic bacteria, and the urinary microbiome remains similar to that of a person without a UTI. Instead, chronic inflammation and irritation of the bladder and urethral lining are present—often following repeated or long-standing UTIs—leading to persistent pain and other symptoms. If this is the case the Cystoprotek by Algonot would be of great help as well as following a lower oxalate diet and lower histamine diet.
